The Clean Slate
This seems like a bad idea. I'm the first one in line to applaud reasonable policy stances on the part of the US government but I get very nervous when this band of chumps gets a free pass on anything. It can't be good.

Anyway, what's so bad about this?

No I actually started that post on Aug 1st and then haven't had the time for it since then .. it's embarrassing I know. Also check out Small Town, I started that one in July and only just finished it yesterday!
As for whether or not it's bad, I am torn. On the one hand it's good since it was never really true in the first place. Certainly not like it is in Afghanistan or Pakistan or Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, any encouragement of the central government is not a good thing since they will take it as a vindication of their policy. It's a weird situation.

I can't seem to make-up my mind either - probably because I'm not well informed on the whole political picture... I hope any lifting of sanctions will help ease things for a lot of people... maybe even the displaced in Darfur?

I wonder how much it'll ease things for people? It's not like the 'market' is the problem, the govt basically owns the market and sets all the prices. It's a monopoly on all kinds of power, so lifting the sanctions won't really do anything to alleviate the peoples' problems. So what can you do?
